One of Nigerian leading bank, Heritage Bank Plc is investing in its image as a community champion in rural retail banking by providing rural people access to banking facilities.  Heritage Bank is throwing its clout on communities through its Agency Banking, known as Heritage Bank CornerShop. If Heritage Bank sustains its CornerShop retail banking strategy, the bank could be on its way to become huge customers based bank and a successful financial institution.

Heritage Bank CornerShop retail banking agent outlets provide customers the benefits of financial services in their immediate environments without customers having to go kilometers to bank branches for such services.  As at the last count, Heritage Bank has grown its CornerShops in Nigeria to 400.

The latest addition was “Thy Grace” CornerShop, located in Mowo neighbourhood in Badagry local government area. It was commissioned the week end of, Saturday, June 17, 2017.  “Thy Grace” Agent CornerShop would provide banking services to customers in Mowo neighbourhood.

Heritage Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ifie Sekibo, at the commissioning of “Thy Grace” CornerShop said Heritage Bank Plc would continue to set standards for launching CornerShops to meet the needs of traders and artisans in rural areas across the country.

Oluwakemi Adewumi, Heritage Bank Zonal Business Coordinator, South-West and South-South Agent Banking said “Thy Grace” CornerShops would relieve the Mowo community in Badagry the stress of banking services.  The new Agent would provide services not only to customers of Heritage Bank, but also to customers of other banks.

Adewumi said customers could operate bank account, deposit cash, transfer cash to other banks and pay bills through the Agent. “Thy Grace” Agent also intends to deploy mobile POS to further enhance banking services to customers in the area.

On the CornerShop Agents commitment to providing efficient services, Adewumi said:  “The level of their loyalty is very high and commendable.  Our Agents maintain a clean record and they have been effective”.

The promoter of “Thy Grace”, Hunyingan Pius Mifrinso, while receiving Heritage Bank Plc Certificate of Authorization to operate as its Agent, thanked Heritage Bank Plc for granting approval to “Thy Grace”.

Heritage Bank Plc, two years ago, launched its version of financial inclusion strategy, in line with Nigerian Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, financial inclusion strategy, which gave birth to Heritage Bank Agents Banking “Corner Shops” in the country, presently, numbering 400.
