SUPER EAGLES CAPTAIN: JOHN MIKEL OBI

It was a stunning defeat the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and current African Champions, never anticipated from Nigerian Super Eagles. Insightful football analysts may not have expected the score line of Nigeria—4, Cameroon—0, in Friday, September 1, first leg, 2018 World Cup Qualifier between both countries.

Nigerian Super Eagles has not been that dazzling for quite some now, as seen in their impressive performance against highly rated Cameroonian side. Two goals in the first half from Odion Ighalo 29th minutes, and Skipper Mikel Obi 42nd minutes gave Nigerian fans some thrills before the break.

Second half began with Cameroon appearing purposeful. They took an early challenge to the Nigerian side, but the Super Eagles repelled the Cameroonians incursion. In just 56th minutes of the second half, Victor Moses increased the tally to three goals; while substitute Kelechi Iheanacho at 77th minutes made it four goals. And it was sealed till full time 90 minutes final whistle.

Nigerian Super Eagles now lead Group B with nine points and Cameroon stands at the bottom with two points. With dampened ambition, how far would the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon go in their home-soil, Yaoundé, when they take on the Super Eagles on Monday, September 4, second leg?

With the resounding [4—0] defeat against Cameroon in Uyo, Nigeria, the result, not score line, of the second-leg in Yaoundé, Cameroon, may be predictable. The Super Eagle seemed certain to take away yet another win against the Indomitable Lions.

If that happens, the Super Eagles will be on their way to Russia 2018 World Cup, while Cameroon would be healing their wounds from double-tie defeat by the admirable Nigerian Super Eagles.
