NATIONAL AGENCY FOR THE PROHIBITION OF TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS, NAPTIP

VERY SERIOUS AND MINOR WRONG DOINGS, first causality, is the “truth”. Blaming the devil for all human mistakes has become the norm. The devil plays star character in sinners, while sinners assume the saint. A rampaging vehicle driver, simply fails to obey traffic “RED” light for stop. He knocks down an innocent victim, and “blames the devil” for his action.

For carelessly ignoring mechanical or electrical warning, a vehicle breaks-down. The vehicle owner or user “blames the devil” for his or her inaction in adequately giving maintenance attention to his vehicle. Someone, forgetfully, left the door of his house unlocked when leaving home.  He returns home and finds the door open, nothing had gone wrong – no incident of missing items in the house.  He is asked, how come he forgot to lock his door.  He “blames the devil”.

These and countless other incidents have become the irony and norm of human existence – playing the blame game of saints and sinners – the devil, bearing the brunt.

Sunday, June 2, Nigeria’s National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, released a statement on the arrest of 48-years old pastor of Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Church, MFM, Gwarimpa Branch, for alleged rape, sexual molestation and impregnating 16-years-old orphan, in Abuja.

During investigation, NAPTIP statement said, the “pastor confessed to sexually abusing the girl only twice and attributing the evil act to the devil”.

“NAPTIP operatives effected arrest of one pastor with MFM in Gwarimpa, Abuja, for rape, sexual molestation and impregnating a 16-year-old orphan. The suspect from Nsukka in Enugu State, was said to have volunteered to provide shelter and also conduct deliverance on the girl after she lost her parents and was accused of witchcraft.

“But he took advantage of the vulnerability of the innocent girl and repeatedly devoured her sexually,” NAPTIP’s Head, Press and Public Relations Unit, Stella Nezan, said in the statement.

NAPTIP’s statement, further said the pastor was living with his own daughter in the same compound with the victim’s late parent in Karmo, suburb of Abuja.  He volunteered to assist the 16-year-old orphan with her education after the death of her parent.

“According to the victim, after the first year of their living together, the pastor started making love advances toward her, an action she constantly resisted. She narrated that the first time the pastor raped her was in March, after her birthday outing,” the statement said.  And the pastor continued to rape her, afterwards, which resulted in pregnancy.

Nezan said the victim is a Junior Secondary School, JSS Two, student in Abuja. She had lived with the pastor, who is a widower, and his daughter for sometimes before the “sexual exploitation”.

Her words: “The victim, a JSS2 student of one of the government schools in Abuja, suddenly dropped out of school and was in dire need of accommodation shortly after the death of her parents in 2018”.

Julie Okah-Donli, Director-General, NAPTIP, described the action of the suspect as the “highest form of wickedness against a fellow human being”. She said the case would be diligently prosecuted to secure justice for the victim.
