GODWIN EMEFIELE: GOVERNOR, CBN

UNFOLDING NEW ROADMAP for Nigeria’s Central Bank and the Economy, in the days ahead, was Godwin Emefiele’s pledge, when he took oath of office for second tenure as Governor of the apex bank. He said he would unveil the roadmap after consultations with critical stakeholders.

Alice Karau, Secretary and Director, Corporate Secretariat, CBN, administered the oath of office, Monday, in Abuja, according to CBN’s statement released by Isaac Okoroafor, Director, Corporate Communications.

Emefiele would be seeking all stakeholders support to build a healthy and stable system in the best interest of Nigeria. He also restated the bank’s focus to play active role in supporting job and wealth creation. CBN would continue to collaborate with the fiscal authorities to strengthen growth and wealth creation.

“We must strengthen our efforts over the coming years to stimulate growth and job creation in critical sectors of the economy, which will help insulate our economy from shocks in the global economy.

GDP GROWTH

“We must also work to build a healthy and stable financial system that will contribute to the growth of our economy, while preserving price stability,” Emefiele said.

More work still needed to be done in building a stronger economy for the benefit of all. The pace of Gross Domestic Product, GDP, growth remained fragile and below the rate of Nigeria’s annual population growth at 2.7 per cent, CBN Governor said.

Nigerian Senate, May 16, confirmed Godwin Emefiele’s re-appointment as Governor of Central Bank for second term of five years.  Emefiele expressed gratitude to God, thanked President Buhari for nominating him, the Senate for confirming his appointment, management and staff, as well as the media for their support during his first tenure.
