TOOTHLESS BULL DOG, is how electricity consumers in Nigeria, described Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, for being unable to, appropriately, regulate the excesses of the Distribution Companies of Nigeria, DISCOs, especially, the persistent demands for hike in electricity tariff in the country, without commensurate service delivery.

Nigerian Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; and Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker, House of Representatives, Tuesday, visited President Buhari, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, been part of efforts to resolve issues surrounding DISCOs planned hike in electricity tariff in the country, by July 1.

Lawan and Gbajabiamila, met first, with President Buhari; and also, met with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, on the same issue. After the meeting with Osinbajo, both National Assembly leaders, told State House journalists that the planned hike in electricity tariff  by DISCOs, on July 1, was untimely.

NASS leadership, on Monday, also intervened, and met with DISCOs, and prevailed on them to shelve the planned hike till the first quarter of 2021.

Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, is an independent regulatory body, with authority for the regulation of the electric power industry in Nigeria.
