FIRED BY GODWIN OBASEKI’S Edo Governorship re-election victory, on September 19, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Lagos State, Monday, says it is determined to replicate similar feat in the State. Perhaps, to dislodge “godfatherism” and “dictator-general” of democracy in the State, and win the 2023 governorship election.
Taofik Gani, PDP Lagos State spokesperson’s statement titled: “Edo Victory, We Are Fired Up”, said Godwin Obaseki’s victory has strengthened the PDP in the State, in its determination to replicate the victory recorded in the Edo State Governorship election in Lagos State.
Defying the odds of political “godfatherism” – within and outside Edo State, and the cloud of “federal might”, Godwin Obaseki, of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in September 19, Edo State governorship election, polled 307,955 votes, to defeat Osagie Ize-Iyamu, of All Progressives Congress, APC, with 223,619 votes.
Gani said, “The PDP, Lagos state chapter, has congratulated Governor Godwin Obaseki, on his re-election as Edo State Governor. The Lagos state chapter particularly hailed the Governor for his ability to garner the needed vote to be declared at the first ballot, in the face of rumoured federal might.
“To us in Lagos state PDP we have grasped from the well-deserved victory, the renewed commitment, and resoluteness to also win Lagos state to end godfatherism & imposition in Lagos politics. As a matter of fact, we are now more ever than before fired up to win Lagos State. We shall manifest this ability in the coming bye-elections in the state and eventually the 2023 general elections.”
THE VICTORY of Obaseki, to every Edo citizen, was the defeat of “godfatherism” in the State. The mass deafening call by Edo people for the slaying of “godfatherism”, got heated up, by Bola Tinubu’s provocative paid television broadcast, incredibly, urging Edo people to “reject Godwin Obaseki, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at the election; and vote for his [Tinubu’s] preferred candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
