SEYI MAKINDE, Governor of Oyo State, south west Nigeria, may have buried the differences between him and former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose. At Wocdiff Centre, Osogbo, venue of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, zonal congress election, Monday, Fayose acknowledged Governor Makinde as “my brother, my friend and by the grace of God, our leader”.
He apologized to members of the party who were not part of the faction he controlled. He believed they may have gone through some challenges over the years. “Nothing last forever, if I offend anybody, I apologize”, and added: “I and Seyi Makinde are one from the beginning”. And wished Makinde successful tenure as the party leader in the South West.
South West zone of PDP almost became crisis ridden between factions controlled by Makinde and Fayose. The leadership tussle degenerated into verbal confrontations. Fayose threatened working against Makinde in 2023 elections due to the differences between them.
Makinde is serving his first term as Governor of Oyo State, the only PDP controlled State in south west Nigeria. All Progressive Congress, APC, controls five of the six states in the zone.
